The Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing and the China-Sri Lanka Chamber of Economic and Trade Cooperation hosted a conference on China-Sri Lanka Economic, Trade and Cultural Cooperation and Exchange on October 26, 2021 at the Embassy.
The main focus of the event was on promoting investment, trade and tourism opportunities among potential Chinese investors and tour operators. Representatives of large Chinese companies including CZK Industry Group, Hunan Construction Engineering Group, Caissa Travel Group, Yuan’s Seed Company Limited, members of the China-Sri Lanka Association for Trade and Economic Cooperation (CSLATE ) and Embassy officials attended the event.
Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to China, Dr. Palitha Kohona delivered the opening speech highlighting the opportunities available in Sri Lanka for investment, trade, tourism, education and other sectors. He said it is vital to organize events like this, where Chinese and Sri Lankan companies can meet, exchange views and strengthen cooperation between them. He added that Sri Lanka tourism expects to work closely with Chinese tour operators and grow to at least one million Chinese tourists visiting Sri Lanka.
During the event, CSLATE signed two MoUs with CZK Industry Group and Hunan Construction Engineering Group. Beijing Sri Road Trading Co. Ltd., owned by a Sri Lankan entrepreneur, also signed a memorandum of understanding with Hunan Construction Engineering Group to promote and market Sri Lankan snacks including confectionery products on trains. high speed from Guangzhou.
