‘I will make tourism and sound mining development tools for economic expansion if I am re-elected- Makinde

Oyo State Governor ‘Seyi Makinde said his administration would focus on developing tourism and solid minerals if he is re-elected in 2023.

Governor Makinde who said this during the 41 Days of Fidau Prayers for Late Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Dr. Abdulganiyu Adekunle Salau, Ajinese Ologunebi I held at Iseyin District High School also said that his administration is poised to make Iseyin, located in the northern part of the state, the capital of Nigeria’s solid mineral development.

He asserted that his policy document, Oyo Roadmap for Accelerated Development, 2023-2027, which is already being prepared ahead of the reopening of the campaign window, will seize tourism and sound mining development as viable tools to deliver the agenda. of economic expansion of the administration. .

According to a statement by the governor’s chief press secretary, Mr Taiwo Adisa, added that his administration will determine how to take advantage of the Ikere Gorge Dam and other tourist attractions across the state.

At the event, which was attended by Acting Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kayode Ariwoola; Oyo State Deputy Governor Barr. Bayo Lawal; legal fixture, Barr. Ahmed Raji, SAN and many government officials, the Governor described the late Aseyin as an individual who loved Iseyin and did his best to attract development to the city.

Governor Makinde, who said his administration’s decision to link Iseyin to all other areas of Oyo State through road infrastructure is not unrelated to his plan to make Iseyin the center of the state and a strong hub of mineral development in the country, noted that the administration has completed the 65 km Moniya-Iseyin road, while the 76 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso road has exceeded 50 percent .

The administration is also constructing the Oyo-Iseyin road in the same axis, he said, while stating that the resuscitation of the Ikere Gorge dam is a priority project for the administration and that it would receive increased attention. once the funds are available.

He also argued that Iseyin General Hospital is among the hospitals captured in the French government’s intervention program for the health sector in the state.
He said, “We have to thank God for a day like this as we celebrate the life of our late Kabiyesi.

“I don’t think I’ve met anyone who loved Iseyin like Iseyin’s late Aseyin. The last time I came here for a condolence visit, I specified that it was on the sickbed that he signed the land document of the LAUTECH Faculty.

“I also remember when I came to discuss with him how we could make Iseyin the center of Oyo State, I told him that we wanted to link Ogbomoso to Iseyin because Saki is already linked to Iseyin and he was very happy He showed interest and said that the road we are talking about which is Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso was the road his ancestors took when they traded with other places I told him how serious we were and promised that it wouldn’t become a scrapped project.

“Now I’m happy that to date we have completed more than 50% of this project.”

The governor said that if his government will continue to keep its election promises until the last day of the administration’s first term, more development projects will come to Iseyin and throughout Oyo State if the people re-elect him. as governor in 2023.

Earlier, Advocate Raji, SAN, who hosted and appreciated Governor Makinde and other dignitaries on behalf of the Iseyin community, congratulated the governor, noting that his tenure, which coincided with the era of late Aseyin, brought enormous developments and progress to Iseyinland.

He listed the completed Moniya-Iseyin road, the ongoing Oyo-Iseyin and Iseyi-Fapote-Ogbomoso roads and, most importantly, the establishment of the Faculty of Agriculture at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, after decades of broken promises to the Iseyin administrations, as part of the blessings that came to Iseyin during Makinde’s rule.

He promised that the townspeople would show their appreciation to the governor by re-electing him in the general election of 2023, because according to him, the people of Iseyin are not ingrates and will follow the precepts of the Koran, which says that kindness must be rewarded with kindness.

Raji, however, said the community would still like the governor to meet some of their needs, including repairing the Ikere Gorge Dam, which he says is capable of generating electricity for the people, supplying drinking water and boosting agriculture.

He added that the government should also pay special attention to repairing the Iseyin General Hospital and the potholes that were starting to appear on the road in Iseyin Township built by the previous administration.
While responding to requests made by Barr. Raji, SAN, Governor Makinde said, “I thank my brother, lawyer Ahmed Raji, SAN. I noted down everything you said and asked for will be granted regarding the repair of potholes on the road in Iseyin Township.

“The man in charge of the Oyo State Roads Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) is the Deputy Governor and he is your son, so I can assure you that OYSROMA will follow up on the ask soon.
“Regarding the Ikere Gorge Dam, I believe I am the first state governor to have visited the site more than three times. The benefits we can derive from it, which are water supply, power supply and irrigation for agricultural purposes, are already on our agenda. In fact, we need huge funds for this, but I can assure you that this is a priority project and will be implemented. The dam is also a tourist attraction.

“If you’ve ever been to Australia, the country is almost like the solid mineral capital of the world. I can tell you that Iseyin will most certainly become the world capital of solid minerals in Nigeria. So for those who have land here, don’t sell it now because you can sell it for higher prices soon, say in five years.

“Furthermore, regarding the request for the public hospital, the French government has granted the State of Oyo the sum of 55 million euros to expand and improve our health facilities and the general hospital of Iseyin. is one of the projects that we plan to execute, so it’s a matter of time.

Everything will be settled.
“Finally, I want to assure you that if you support this government with your votes in the 2023 general election, further development projects beyond what we have already done will be seen in Iseyin.”
