The Cabinet announced South Africa’s participation in EXPO2020 Dubai which will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022. The theme of this year’s Expo is “Connecting Minds and create the future through sustainability, mobility, and opportunity ”.

EXPO2020 will offer the country the opportunity to present to the world its vast and diverse economic, cultural and tourism opportunities. This world-class investment platform is considered the oldest and largest international event on the planet.

The South Africa team, made up of government departments, private organizations, businesses, educational institutions and media representatives, will be led by the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition. . The delegation aims to introduce South Africa to nearly 190 countries and organizations from around the world that will meet at EXPO2020.

South Africa’s participation in the Expo aims to further boost the economy, find sustainable ways to recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and create opportunities for inclusive growth. Team South Africa will focus the conversation on job creation and economic growth, under the theme: “Think of South Africa, think of the opportunity.”

South Africa, as a participating country, will present its value proposition at the South African Pavilion, located in the Opportunities District, and promote trade and investment, promoting innovative world-class technologies, the arts creatives, tourism, sports and its unique cultural diversity.

Start-ups representing fintech, creatives, health tech, agribusiness, circular economy, green energy and other sectors will come to the Expo to connect with global investors to to unlock business opportunities. Team South Africa will also put more emphasis on agriculture and global trade services, mining, manufacturing and advanced manufacturing sectors – all of the major job creators that fuel economic growth.

The aim is to give investors and visitors a real experience of what South Africa has to offer through virtual exhibitions that will allow visitors to engage in virtual discussions with companies. The goal is to turn the conversation about South Africa’s history into potential business opportunities.
